India-Japan Partnership: Kochi Day

The Embassy of India, Tokyo, in collaboration with the Kochi Prefectural Government, hosted the “India-Japan Partnership: Kochi Day” on 5 June 2025. The event was aimed at strengthening the India-Japan bilateral partnership and promoting engagement between India and Kochi Prefecture.

2. The programme commenced with inaugural remarks by Ambassador H.E. Mr. Sibi George, highlighting the strength of the India-Japan Special Strategic & Global Partnership, and the possibility of collaborations with Kochi in sectors of sustainable agriculture, education, human resource exchange, digital transformation and renewable energy. The keynote address was delivered by H.E. Mr. Seiji Hamada, Hon’ble Governor of Kochi Prefecture, followed by remarks from H.E. Mr. Fumitaka Mitsuishi, Hon’ble Speaker of the Kochi Legislative Assembly; Mr. Kazuya Nakajo, Executive Vice President, JETRO; and H.E. Mr. Tomomi Hisamatsu, Chairman of the India–Kochi Friendship Association.

3. A series of presentations followed, showcasing the business, investment, and human resource engagement potential between India and Kochi Prefecture:

  • Teruaki Doi, Director, Overseas Promotion Division, Taiyo Co., Ltd.
  • Masaaki Katami, Senior Expert, Global Strategy Department, Giken Ltd.
  • Kiyo Maeda, Planning Supervisor, Department of Commerce, Industry and Labor, Kochi Prefectural Government
  • Neel Bhatia, Senior Vice President, Invest India (virtual)
  • Krishnan Narayanan, MD & CEO, M/s Nihon Edutech Pvt. Ltd. (virtual)

4. The event also featured a yoga session conducted by Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Yoga Teacher at the Embassy. A highlight of the programme was the cultural segment that included a Bharatanatyam dance performance by Ms. Saiko Yamamoto, a senior Indian classical dance artist, followed by a lively Yosakoi dance demonstration presented by the Kochi Prefecture team, symbolizing the cultural harmony and mutual appreciation between India and Japan.

5. The event concluded with a vibrant networking reception featuring exhibits on India’s ODOP items, Indian cuisine, sake & fish tasting from Kochi, tourism & business promotion, offering an opportunity for meaningful exchanges between business leaders, government officials, and cultural representatives.
